An Irish app described as ‘Facebook for carers’, CareZapp, is one of the 14 finalists in the Startup Battlefield at thought leadership event TechCrunch Disrupt 2014 in London.
CareZapp has been selected from nearly 700 applicants and, should it come out on top, will receive a prize of stg£30,000.
“As a start-up, to reach the final of a major technology competition such as TechCrunch, launches CareZapp onto a global stage at just the right time in our development,” said company CEO Andrew MacFarlane.
The free application allows caregivers to create networks of care to support people who require their help with a cloud-based platform for personalising plans. CareZapp recently took part, as one of eight start-ups, in the 12-week Bank of Ireland accelerator programme in Cork.
“Instead of the traditional emergency response, the CareZapp model is proactive and enables prevention and continual monitoring of wellness through a unique social network that can be accessed by people of the user’s choosing,” added MacFarlane.
TechCrunch Disrupt 2014 takes place today and tomorrow.
