Cloudium Systems wins LEAP award for cloud-based IP

5 Jul 2011

Set up three years ago, Cloudium Systems has won the ‘Best IP’ award at the LEAP Business Awards 2011 for its innovative cloudAccel and cloudRDP technology.

The intellectual property (IP) enables the creation of cloud-based desktops with the same fidelity of experience as a local PC.

The cloudAccel and cloudRDP technologies are core to Cloudium’s cloudZero VCA2000 product family – its next-generation, high-performance, low-cost, energy-efficient solution created around Cloudium’s proprietary CA2020 semiconductor device.

“The world of computing is making a paradigm shift from the personal computer to a ‘pervasive’ or ‘virtual’ desktop that can be accessed anywhere and anytime – a concept described in the increasingly used term cloud computing,” said Cloudium Systems CEO John Hickey, accepting the award.

The company was founded by veterans of networking and virtualisation solutions, including Hickey. “We have a track record of creating new businesses and bringing new products to market based on technological innovations, currently holding 21 patents within the team,” he said.

The LEAP Business Awards 2011 were sponsored by the AIB Seed Capital Fund, Deloitte, Cruickshank, Limerick Institute of Technology and the Discovery Partnership.

Richard O’Connor, partner, Cruickshank Intellectual Property Attorneys, noted that industry drivers and application trends clearly indicate a shift towards cloud computing and said it was glad to recognise Cloudium’s IP in this space.
