Brazil suffered its worst loss on home turf in World Cup history to Germany last night, scoring one point to Germany’s seven in the first World Cup 2014 semifinal, and fans are reacting with memes and tweets.

#BrazilvsGermany is trending on Twitter this morning, and the match has become the most talked-about sporting event in the microblogging site's history.

Twitter users fired off 35.6m tweets about the Brazil vs Germany match, overtaking the previous record of 24.9m tweets sent during Superbowl XLVIII, when the Seattle Seahawks won the American football match 43-8 against the Denver Broncos in February, The Independent reported.

Germany scored four goals in six minutes last night. When Sami Khedira added a fourth goal, the ensuing 580,166 tweets per minute set another Twitter record, surpassing the 388,985 tweets per minute when Brazil knocked out Chile 1-1 on penalties two weeks ago.
