Netflix updates player for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch

31 May 2012

Realising that more and more users are viewing through mobile devices, Netflix has upgraded its iOS players to provide an improved playback experience.

The new video players come with a look and feel that is more consistent with the recently updated in-browser player, with larger, more separated play controls adapted for touch-screen use.

The use of thumbnail images on the scrub bar (the line across the bottom of the screen that shows you how playback is progressing) mimics YouTube’s functionality and allows users to see a point they want to navigate to.

The new interface also provides easier access to audio and subtitle settings and other player features.

As well as this, settings have been expanded so you can opt to stream from Netflix only when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Probably best of all with this update, though, is a Facebook Control button in the player that gives you quick access to the ‘do not share’ capability (for those of you embarrassed about some of the shows you watch).

The latest version of Netflix requires iOS version 4.2.1 or later and is available now from the App Store.
