Not since Lemony Snicket has there been such a series of unfortunate events as this. In a match between Italian teams Ponticelli and Riolo Terme, an amateur footballer capitalises on a goalkeeper’s fumble and what follows is a rampant celebration, which went unappreciated by the referee.

Camera falls from aeroplane into pig pen
It may be hard to believe but, according to reports, this video is a true depiction of a hardy GoPro camera falling from a skydiver’s helmet into a pig sty below, where a curious swine gives it an aul’ snuffle. At over 6m views, I bet the GoPro marketing team are gutted they didn’t come up with it themselves.

Scaling Shanghai Tower
The as-yet unfinished Shanghai Tower will stand 632m high when it opens to the public next year, making it the second-tallest building in the world. So, of course, these two Russian daredevils – Vadim Makhorov and Vitaliy Raskalov – decided to sneak in there and climb to the top. Not only does this video allow you to see from great heights, the fish-eye effect also lends it that authentic dizzy feeling.

Dale Hansen celebrates differences
American footballer Michael Sam – described here as “the best defensive player in college football’s best conference” – recently came out publicly as gay, which could make him the first-ever openly gay player in the NFL if selected in the 2014 draft. Sam confessed he knew this revelation could cause problems for his career, which he said have already started, prompting sports broadcaster Dale Hansen to rightly question an institution that forgives all manner of misdeeds, but cannot accept someone because of who they love.
