Spring is in full flight, so many of us are stretching our limbs, breathing in the fresh air and getting fit. Whether you’re training for a triathlon or just want to be more lithe, the following blogs are sure to appeal to serious athletes and those who simply love the outdoors.

Running over Mountains and around the World

Commencing with a quote by the mountaineer extraordinaire Sir Edmund Hillary: “It is not the mountain that we conquer, but ourselves”, the Running over Mountains and around the World blog is in itself like a breath of fresh mountain air.

Runner Moire O’Sullivan’s blog gives uber-informative accounts of various runs, from the Wicklow Way to jogging around Nairobi. The blog also mentors runners about using equipment , etc.

O’Sullivan has also posted links to various sports stockists –  handy for those looking for training gear.

The Cycling Blog

The cycling blog forum of Worldwidecycles.com, a bike shop owned by Barry Meehan, is a useful forum for cyclists to interact and ask each other advice.

One blog by Meehan recounts  a recent cycle in the Comeraghs, where he narrowly dodged death at the hands of a lorry driver.

A sleek and entertaining site that also uses YouTube, Flickr and Twitter Feed.

Yosemite Blog

Yosemite Blog: An Insiders Guide to Yosemite Park would make you want to hop on a plane and head for California straightaway.

It provides stunning photography, maps, information about fishing in and around Yosemite, along with advice on where to stay when visiting the area.

The blog forum section of the site is very appealing, with posts recounting of snowshoeing in Yosemite, for example, and information about the Merced River Canyon wildflowers.

This would be a very useful site for backpackers and walkers intending to travel to Yosemite National Park.

Life Spotlight

lifespot

Life Spotlight has been created by two health and fitness bloggers, whose goal is to provide information on fitness and health: “We do not give you fluff material on silly workouts. We present the facts and challenge you to find the real answers for health.”

An absorbing site for those interested in optimising their fitness levels, Life Spotlight has feature articles on health matters such as stress and taking time-out. Its health section has categories such as Family Health and Prevention & Wellness. Informative.
