HP restructure will see printer group subsumed into PC group

21 Mar 2012

Technology giant HP will later today announce a reorganisation that will see its Imaging and Printing Group merge into its Personal Systems Group, it has been reported.

According to All Things Digital, the combined business group will report to executive vice-president Todd Bradley. The VP in charge of the printing group VJ Joshi will leave the company, it has been reported.

The reorganisation is part of a drive by CEO Meg Whitman to simplify structures at HP aimed at being more responsive to changing customer needs.

The Imaging and Printing Group for a long time had been the jewel in HP’s crown and is a largely cash generative business due to the sales of inkjet cartridges.

In recent years, device lines like the HP Envy printers have began to take on greater computing power with displays hosting web-connected apps and greater social media capabilities.

In addition, devices like iPhones and iPads can print directly to these new families of printers over AirPlay – so the greater integration with personal devices makes compelling sense.
