Up to 40 jobs in Dublin were lost at Irish financial software firm Cognotec yesterday while today it emerged that a further 100 jobs are at risk at Dublin-based outsourcing firm Zomax.
Cognotec employs 200 people and specialises in foreign exchange software. The company is understood to be reducing its headcount by 40 as part of a restructure following the completion of a new product line called RealStream.
Meanwhile, more bad news emerged today when Zomax, a company that provides outsourced CD and printed material services for the technology sector, put staff on protective notice after the loss of a major contract.
The company employs 155 people in Santry and a further 100 people in Blanchardstown.
The company said it is looking to seek alternative employment for the affected workers but in the meantime has little alternative than to put workers on protective notice.
Zomax added that workers based at a joint venture with supply chain firm MPO in Blanchardstown will not be affected.
The news comes amidst further revelations that saw Motorola in Cork announce 350 redundancies while Vodafone in recent weeks revealed it is seeking 100 voluntary redundancies.
It emerged before Christmas that printing technology player Xerox is conducting a strategic review of its Blanchardstown operations where some 1,200 people are employed. The findings of that review have yet to be revealed.
Last month it emerged that just under 140 workers are to be made redundant at the Swords-based tech support call centre of global business process outsourcing provider Clientlogic.
