Co Clare technology company Bustec Ltd is to supply the US Navy with data capture and testing equipment after securing a €21m contract from Lockheed Martin. The company now hopes to create 40 more jobs, adding to its staff of 18 employees.

Bustec, which was established in Shannon, Co Clare, in 1997, also provides electronic safeguards on the International Space Station and electronic testing for the US Navy’s fleet of aircraft.

“Bustec is a sophisticated technology company operating at the cutting edge of its sector, and its decision to retain its headquarters and manufacturing base in Shannon since the mid-1990s is a major vote of confidence for Ireland and the region,” said Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD.

Fred Blönnigen, founder and CEO of Bustec, dubbed the news a “really amazing breakthrough” and growth of almost 100pc for each of the three years to come.
