Telecommunications and media investment firm Granahan McCourt has acquired a majority shareholding in telecommunications services provider AirSpeed Telecom.

The largest licensed wireless network in Ireland outside of mobile operators, AirSpeed Telecom has built a carrier class wireless and fibre network across the country.

“It’s an extremely exciting time for AirSpeed Telecom and I’m very much looking forward to spearheading this activity in my continuing role as CEO of the company,” said AirSpeed’s Liam O’Kelly.

“We see significant untapped potential in Ireland,” said David C McCourt, chairman and CEO of Granahan McCourt.

“AirSpeed has an excellent business model, a very well invested infrastructure and a skilled team of people and we are excited about its prospects.”

This is the second significant acquisition by Granahan McCourt in the Irish telecommunications sector in the last year or so. The firm led a group of investors who bought Irish fibre firm E-net in September 2013.
