Beleaguered actor Charlie Sheen has been forced to change his mobile phone number after he accidentally posted it on microblogging site Twitter.

Sheen had recently been trying to send his number via direct message, which is private, to Justin Bieber, asking the teen pop star to give him a call, The Sun newspaper reported.

It didn’t quite work, as the former star of Two and a Half Men tweeted his mobile number publically – meaning Sheen’s 5.5m followers were able to see the digits. Sheen removed the tweet as soon as he realised it had been posted to public view, but it was too late.

“Charlie’s phone immediately went into meltdown” said an onlooker at the Las Vegas restaurant where Sheen had been eating and tweeting. Sheen’s mobile “was ringing wildly and he got 1,800 text messages in minutes.”

Sheen had fun with the mistake at first, answering his phone by saying, “Ray’s Pizza”, “winning”, and other greetings, before turning his mobile off.

A spokesperson for Sheen said the actor just got a new number.
