Radio silence as casual games giant launches Bejewelled Twist

24 Oct 2008

The website of PopCap Games, the creators of the Bejewelled casual game, which as been downloaded 25 million times, is to shut down …

… but before gaming addicts cry their hearts out, the site will shut down for just six or seven hours on Monday as the company launches the next addition to the Bejewelled family of mobile and internet games, Bejewelled Twist.

The site will go live again at 7.40pm Pacific time (that’s 3.40am over here in Dublin).

PopCap Games employs over 200 people in Dublin, Seattle, San Francisco, Vancouver and Chicago, and its timeless games have been downloaded one billion times.

The games are played on the web, desktop computers, mobile devices, games consoles and on in-flight entertainment systems.

The game launch has been described as PopCap’s biggest game yet, and will be available via web download at http://www.popcap.com on Monday at 7.40pm in Seattle and 3.40am Greenwich Mean Time.

“We’re really excited to be covering this historic event, and plan to bring every bit of the excitement and action to viewers worldwide via our webcast,” said Scot Rubin, founder of AllGames.com and a webcast veteran of more than a dozen years.

“A new instalment in the Bejewelled line-up is cause for celebration among casual and hardcore fans alike, and the webcast will capture it all, from game demos to the on-stage performances, as well as interviews with gamers, analysts and executives.”
