The lines between video games and movies blur in the new Need for Speed

Games publishing giant EA has revealed footage at Gamescom for its new line-up of titles, including: Star Wars Battlefront, Need for Speed, FIFA 16, Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 and Sims 4 Get Together.

At Gamescom, EA revealed new capabilities, new modes and exciting action across a range of titles that will be hot this Christmas when the video games selling season is in full swing.

EA reveals new modes for FIFA 16 at Gamescom

For FIFA 16 EA announced new ways to play in its two most popular modes: FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) and Career Mode. FIFA Ultimate Team introduces FUT Draft, a brand new way for fans to test their team-building skills and compete with some of the best football players in the world. And this season, Career Mode adds two features requested by fans: pre-season tournaments and player training that ensure an even deeper and more authentic career whether fans play as a manager or a pro.

In FIFA Ultimate Team Draft, fans can compete in single-player or online in a single knockout string of four games to achieve rewards – the more games won, the better the reward to utilise in your FUT Club. Once fans enter a draft using virtual coins, FIFA points, or a draft token, they will choose from one of five formations, then a captain, and then go on to fill out the rest of their 23-man squad by selecting a player from a choice of five in each position.

“We are delivering unprecedented depth and innovation to the franchise this season by bringing several new ways to play across Career Mode, Ultimate Team, and through the introduction of 12 women’s national teams,” said David Rutter, VP and GM, EA Sports FIFA.

“We think fans are going to be equally as excited with all the new ways as they have been with the gameplay in FIFA 16. From hands-on gameplay events across the world, we’ve heard resoundingly positive feedback on the balanced and exciting experience we are building in FIFA 16.”

A new world to explore in Sims 4

EA also announced that The Sims 4 Get Together Expansion Pack is coming to PC and Mac this November.

For the first time, players will be able to create and play with groups of Sims as they explore a beautiful European-inspired world, make new friends, and live it up.

Windenburg is a new world, with picturesque locations for players’ Sims to explore, such as the sprawling hedge maze at the garden chateau, stunning pools along the bluffs, and the mysterious ancient ruins. It is also a great world for socialising.

It also revealed that it has joined forces with PopCap Games to create an all-new dynamic hub in Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2. This interactive environment connects players to every map and mode, and brings to life all new ways to experience the Plants vs. Zombies universe through solo and social play. As soon as the game starts, players will be immersed in a wild playground with dynamic events and tons to discover and do. They can invite up to three friends into their Backyard Battleground to do almost anything they want — take on daily quests or complete missions for Crazy Dave and Dr Zomboss.

Blur the lines in Need for Speed

Ghost Games, an EA studio, announced the car culture icons who have inspired the narrative behind the reboot of Need for Speed, and revealed how technology is blurring the lines between a live action film and in-game.

Play as yourself in Need for Speed and witness the action from your own point of view as your entourage of friends and the icons entice you into the five ways to play. Make choices that will determine your path through Ventura Bay as you build your reputation through the different styles of driving and progress on your journey to become the ultimate icon.

Star Wars Battlefront

EA also revealed a new trailer for Star Wars Battlefront at Gamescom, featuring Squadron Mode where up to 20 fighters can take part in blistering dogfights.

The hotly-anticipated game launches in November this year across Xbox One and PS4 consoles.
