Website owners can rejoice with new Twitter functionality, thanks to a new official Twitter plugin created especially for website platform WordPress.

The plugin, which is available now for free, gives website owners a host of new features, including the ability to generate Twitter Cards, enable Twitter Analytics, embed video and add a tweet button to posts in the admin interface, which makes it easier for Twitter users to share content.

Website owners can also convert visitors into followers by placing a Follow button on every page.

“WordPress software powers millions of sites around the web, from large global brands such as Katy Perry and Mercedes-Benz, to your local grocery store,” explained Twitter developer advocate Niall Kennedy.

“The official Twitter plugin for WordPress helps sites powered by WordPress embed Twitter content and grow their audience on Twitter.”

The new plugin also makes it possible for website owners to customise embedded tweets in terms of colours and themes to match the theme of their website.

“We created this plugin to serve the common needs of most modern publishers while allowing for extensibility and WordPress API integrations by other WordPress plugins or site-specific customisations,” Kennedy said.

The plugin is globally available in 28 languages and PHP or WordPress developers can access the full plugin code at GitHub under the MIT licence.

Twitter is a Silicon Republic Featured Employer, comprised of top tech companies that are hiring now.
