The Samsung Galaxy smartphone family has a new addition in the form of the S Duos, an Android-powered dual-SIM smartphone targeted at active young professionals, which will be available in Europe some time next month.
It’s a busy old time for Samsung the past few weeks. Currently locked in a patent infringement trial with Apple, the South Korean electronics manufacturer isn’t letting that get in the way of new product launches and announcements.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet computer launched in the US last week and was released in Ireland today, while the company has also released a teaser for its Unpacked event taking place at IFA in Berlin on 29 August that hints the Galaxy Note II. On top of all this, there’s now the Samsung Galaxy S Duos.
The dual-SIM feature on the new Samsung smartphone is meant to enable those who want to keep their working life and personal life separate, but don’t necessarily want to carry a second phone. An ‘Always on’ feature for the dual-SIM means users will be able to receive calls on one number even when taking a call from the other. Using two SIMs also allows users the opportunity to switch between two different call plans as they wish.
As far as looks go, the S Duos is very similar to the Galaxy S III, with its rounded edges and ceramic white finish, and it runs on the same operating system, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The rest of the specifications are more basic, though, with a 1GHz processer, 4GB memory, 1,500mAh battery, 5MP camera and 4-inch display.
