StorageTek Ireland has secured a three-year contract from AIB worth well over €1m. Following a competitive tender, StorageTek, which is best known for its tape drive systems, won the services contract which will include the provision of hardware maintenance and support for the storage hardware infrastructure in AIB, including all existing Sun platforms.
AIB said that the services will allow it to maintain high levels of availability of IT service delivery to its customers with a lower total cost of ownership, thus reducing the overall costs of production to AIB. The contract was awarded as a result of a supplier review process which evaluated the overall service requirement against the total cost of ownership to the bank.
According to AIB’s head of service delivery, Vincent Smith, cost competitiveness was one of the main reasons why StorageTek was handed the contract. Commenting further he said: “[The contract] reflects the need to ensure all parts of the IT service delivery infrastructure are maintained to the highest possible standards while striving to maintain as low a cost structure as possible.”
Sean Jackman, managing director of StorageTek Ireland, said the company would use the AIB win to pitch for more third-party maintenance business.
