Glanbia moves to IP

BT Ireland has been awarded a €3.7m three-year contract by food and dairy group Glanbia for voice, data and line rental services.

Under the terms of the contract, BT will connect Glanbia’s 65 sites across Ireland, the UK and the US with an internet protocol (IP)-based network that can carry voice, data and video traffic.

The Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) platform will pave the way for Glanbia to avail of IP telephony and its derived benefits of lower costs, better security, improved network management and lower technical support overheads.

Commenting on the contract, Tony Minogue, chief information officer of Glanbia, said the network would underpin the firm’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, which manages critical-operational processes.
“The efficient management of our operations depends on the fast, secure transfer of data. With multiple sites around the world, a converged network enables us to greatly enhance our operational performance while reaping the benefits of dealing with a single network and a single global communications provider.”

Bill Murphy, CEO BT Ireland, added: “To be chosen for this contract by Glanbia is a significant achievement for BT and speaks volumes about our credentials as the partner of choice for global businesses. MPLS is a fast, secure and dependable platform that will help Glanbia realise important cost savings and operational efficiencies.”
