The much anticipated Nissan LEAF has been formally launched in Japan.
The all-electric vehicle, which is set for an Irish release in February 2011, will come with an asking price of around 3.76m yen (around €38,000) but will be available for a less expensive price of 2.98m yen (around €27m), thanks to Government subsidies.
Government subsidies
The Irish Government is also employing a subsidised schemed in order to promote the use of electric vehicles, with the Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-Zero subject to a €5,000 subsidy for the all electric models, while hybrid models will be subject to €2,500 discounts from 1 January 2011.
The Nissan LEAF has recently been the recipient of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel-economy label rating for the best in the mid-size vehicle class for fuel efficiency and for the environment.
The all-electric LEAF has a retail price of €29,995 in Ireland.
