YouTube channel subscriptions up 50pc

Love it or hate it, the new-look YouTube is getting a lot of love – channel subscriptions are up 50pc, the video-sharing site said.

YouTube – which is essentially the second-largest search site in the world after Google – switched everyone onto its new redesigned homepage and channel layouts on 8 March.

“Today is the next step in the new YouTube look and feel we launched in December, where all channels will be updated to the new layout,” YouTube said in a blog post.

Since the company began to roll out the layouts, something has taken hold with the site’s users. If subscriptions are up, then that may well mean more users are finding content they enjoy more often and more easily.

Daily unique visits to YouTube’s channels have also risen, by 60pc since December 2011, the company said.

A key reason for the jump in traffic may be attributed to the various versions of the site available for smartphones, tablet computers and televisions.
