Did you know that waves at Teahupo'o in Tahiti have been known to reach as high as seven metres? Check out this mesmerising drone video.

There are surfing videos and there are surfing videos but this has got to be the granddaddy of them all – massive waves shot by drone in Tahiti reveal a surfer’s paradise.

This mesmerising video from a drone’s vantage point at the coastal spot of Teahupo’o in Tahiti, shows waves the size of houses while boats ride the crest of the wave to support the surfers.

Teahupo’o’s surf waves often reach between two and three metres and sometimes seven metres.

It was a closely-guarded secret until the 1980s as an underground spot for thrill-seeking bodyboarders.

It was only in 1998 at the Gotcha Tahiti Pro that Teahupo’o became widely recognised as having some of the heaviest waves in the world.
