The BBC is making 360 of its 1,600 online staff redundant in an effort to streamline its approach to its online service, it was announced today.
BBC’s director-general Mark Thompson said the corporation’s vast portfolio of websites means it sometimes falls short of expectations.
The corporation, Thompson said, is refocusing on its editorial priorities, commitment to high quality standards and a more streamlined and collegiate way of working to transform BBC Online for the corporation’s digital future.
The corporation is cutting its online budget by 25pc from stg£137m to stg£103m by 2013/14.
