Among the big winners at this year’s Super Bowl were Indiana brothers Joe and Dave Herbert, whose ‘Free Doritos’ ad – created for an online contest for amateurs – was voted the top commercial to be screened during the event by a USA Today panel of consumers.
The brothers shot the ad for a reported US$2,000 in a YMCA last October, with a crew and cast made up of volunteers from their local area. The ad was then entered into the Doritos ‘Crash the Super Bowl’ competition, which invited fans of the snack to make their own commercials, with the promise of a screening on the big night for the winning spot.
