The small screen is about to meet the small blog. A global video service with operations in Limerick that enables users to make their own online TV channels has developed a fully embedded Twitter client that lets users share video finds on the micro-blogging site.
Limerick-based WorldTV.com, founded by former DJ, Alx Klive, allows users to collect clips from internet-sharing sites, sequence them and brand their own TV channel. Users can even introduce their own TV channel using their webcam.
A new feature also lets users broadcast live to their WorldTV channel using their mobile phone from anywhere on the planet. So far, more than 35,000 people from 168 countries have created their own TV channels on WorldTV. The site attracts over 250,000 unique users per month.
The new Twitter functionality allows users to broadcast messages via Twitter each time they add a new video clip to their WorldTV channel, or periodically if they are adding lots of videos at once.
Fully integrated into WorldTV’s video content management system, the user can also operate their Twitter account without having to leave WorldTV.
“We’ve been avid Twitter users for some time, and having a way to promote and share cool video finds via Twitter has been a major motivation for us to develop this functionality,” Klive explained.
“The success of TwitPic shows that people are keen to share more than just text messages on Twitter.
“We think we’ve created an elegant solution for sharing video finds on Twitter, wherever those videos may be found,” he added.
The new functionality tightly integrates with WorldTV’s popular tools for finding and sharing video clips from a range of supported sites, including YouTube, Daily Motion, Vimeo, Google Video, Blip.TV and many more.
In addition to the Twitter application, WorldTV has revealed a partnership deal with Bollywood TV channel ZoomTV, which opens up WorldTV’s content to a estimated 3.6 billion Bollywood fans worldwide. ZoomTV is the digital arm of Zoom Television, and is YouTube India’s No 1 most-viewed video-content provider across all categories.
