Golden Pages extends free Wi-Fi along Dublin’s Grafton Street

15 Jan 2013

Goldenpages.ie is to extend free Wi-Fi it deployed for Christmas shoppers for at least an additional three to four months based on initial uptake. The app provides listings in a way that would compete with Google, Yelp and Facebook location services, with the added benefit of weather, entertainment and free wireless connectivity.

Via the Goldenpages.ie iPhone app and Android app, users get access to nearby deals from retailers, as well as events and cinema listings and a ‘Map Me’ function ensures the information is geographically relevant.

The app also provides location-based alerts so users can receive real-time deals based on their current location.

According to research by the Kelsey Group, 29pc of Irish smartphone users are likely to interact with an advert based on location.

The app also has a ‘Share This Listing’ feature that lets satisfied consumers share a business listing with their friends via Facebook, Twitter, SMS or email and add that listing to their phone’s contacts.

The app was built by FCR Media and the free Wi-Fi is available to shoppers, pub goers and diners in the Grafton Street district via Open Wi-Fi Ltd.

Goldenpages.ie has redesigned its iPhone and Android apps to give the already 170,000 users of its app an enhanced locally focused search platform while containing all the Ireland-wide information a user may need.

There are 1.2m smartphones in Ireland and that number is growing rapidly.

According to the Kelsey research, about 46pc of Irish smartphone users search on a daily basis and 45pc of Irish consumers use a smartphone while shopping.

After looking up a local business on their smartphones, 61pc of users called the business and 59pc visited the business.
