While no statement has yet been forthcoming from the company, there are fears that more than 100 technology engineering jobs are to be cut at fabless semiconductor maker Xilinx.
During a week that the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Mary Coughlan TD, is travelling the US to ensure continued technology job creation momentum, the news will be a reminder the technology world is not totally immune from the recession.
Staff at Xilinx’s CityWest operation, where more than 400 people are employed, have been summoned into a meeting with management this morning.
It is understood that the jobs to be cut included skilled electronic engineers and technicians.
Xilinx employs 400 people at its European headquarters and an advanced R&D, engineering and operations centre.
Dublin also fulfils EMEA software development, IT, financial, legal and strategic marketing requirements.
In recent months, Irishman Kevin Cooney, the company’s CIO, was given the additional role of managing director of Xilinx Europe.
