Tesco has revealed its Tesco Mobile division has more than 100,000 customers, which it says is down to its competitive costs for local and international calls, available call credit in all Tesco stores and diverse and up-to-date handset range.
“Mobile phones are now essential to our lives,” said Noel Burrows, managing director at Tesco Mobile Ireland.
Tesco offers mobile services to its shopping customers in all stores via an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) deal it has struck with Telefonica O2 Ireland. Tesco Mobile devices use the 089 prefix.
“We are always striving to give customers the best value for money, so if customers top up on €10 per month, all of their calls and texts to their friends on Tesco Mobile are free. Along with our double credit offer, that is a major draw for new customers. What we are seeing is groups of customers, friends and family moving across to Tesco Mobile together, so they get the benefit of free calls to each other,” said Burrows.
Tesco’s new calls deal
Tesco Mobile customers also get free calls, texts and picture messages to everyone on the Tesco Mobile network. In addition, with Tesco Mobile, users get double credit every time they top up €10 or more and an anytime, any network flat rate of 20-cent calls and 9-cent texts.
From August, Tesco Mobile customers will be able to call 27 countries around the globe for just 1c per minute.
The promotion, which takes place over an eight-week period throughout August and September, will then revert to 2 cents per minute for many destinations. Some of the countries included in the promotion are Poland, China, India, the UK, Nigeria and the Philippines.
