Irish renewable-energy firm Gaelectric is planning a €2bn investment drive in the US over the next six years.

The company has secured further transmission capacity in the north west of the US, which it said offers it an opportunity to double existing power capacity in the region.

When these agreements are completed, Gaelectric said it will have a major stake in transmission projects planned in Montana, from which wind energy can be exported out of the state.

Gaelectric is a group of companies, each active in the different fields of renewable power generation and energy. The company operates three specialist offices in Ireland in Cork, Coleraine and Dublin.
