Dell offers users free pocket edition of Windows 8 for Dummies

6 Nov 2012

Windows 8 marks a significant shift for Microsoft away from a tried-and-tested user interface into the unknown of Live Tiles, touchscreen controls and apps where programmes used to be. Such a dramatic change will require old users to learn new tricks, so a free guidebook from Dell is a welcome aid.

The 11MB Windows 8 for Dummies e-book can be downloaded for free in exchange for filling out a form online.

The 81-page pocket guide is designed to be kept by users’ sides for quick reference whenever needed to navigate the strange, unfamiliar waters of a completely new operating system.

Seeing as Windows-branded operating systems are the most popular worldwide by a long shot, a guide to Windows 8 will be a godsend to many choosing to move to the new platform, and the For Dummies series is noted for its easily understood, jargon-busting approach to learning.

Windows 8 for Dummies is written by Andy Rathbone, who also wrote other titles such as Windows for Dummies and numerous other computer books.
