IDL opts for SMS system from Saadian

23 Oct 2002

Irish Distillers Limited has added an SMS component to its SAP ordering system to provide its sales representatives with the latest order status information.

The technology was provided by Saadian Technologies, whose Business2Mobile (B2M) SMS (short messaging service) messaging server was integrated into the SAP system. B2M is a webservice application that allows users to send SMS messages from a PC or laptop to any GSM mobile phone.

Each night, the ordering system reconciles the customer stock orders for the day and automatically outputs a file of updates.

The file is picked up by B2M and processed. B2M uses the data in the file to create timed SMS messages containing order updates, which are sent out to sales reps the following morning.

The reps use this information to contact customers and amend orders before the delivery trucks leave with the first orders of the day.
