Northern Irish software vendor Singularity has signed a technology partnership with telecommunications specialist Actix.

Actix is a US$150m company which provides radio network performance engineering and status management products to mobile operators globally. Its customers include Vodafone, France Telecom, Orange, Sprint and AT&T.

Singularity’s business process management (BPM) technology will be used by Actix’s customers to analyse network performance and schedule the deployment of network engineers.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

“Singularity stood out because of its excellent track record and deep expertise, attributes that Actix depends on to provide enterprise solutions to some of the world’s largest businesses,” said Andrew Howson, head of software development at Actix. “Singularity’s technology has a strong feature set and is easy to integrate into our products, allowing us to provide a better solution to our customers. Singularity’s technology is a key element of our vision for full-scale self-optimising networks.”

“The partnership agreement has huge potential for both companies and we look forward to working with Actix as we help it to deliver the joint solution to its customers,” commented Dr Robert McGarry (pictured), director of telecommunications, Singularity.

The deal is the latest in a series of major contracts in the telecommunications sector announced by Singularity over the past 12 months. In August the company was chosen by UK telecoms company Unicom to connect it to the new wholesale backbone network OpenReach, an offshoot of BT. In November, the company signed a deal with English business-to-business telecoms provider Glemnet.

Singularity has 200 staff and offices in Derry, Belfast, New York, London, Singapore and Hyderabad.
