Irish e-payments company Trintech has signed a major deal that will see its technology power secure chip and PIN ticketing at railway stations across Europe.

The Dublin headquartered company has signed a deal with Scheidt & Bachmann, a global leader in the supply of automated ticketing and payment systems, to roll out Trintech’s PayWare OpenPay 3000 to enable secure payments at unattended ticket vending machines. It currently has agreements to supply ticketing systems in several countries, including Ireland and Scotland.

“The decision by a world leader like Scheidt & Bachmann to use our PayWare OpenPay 3000 in their chip and PIN enabled ticketing systems across Europe is a strong validation and endorsement of our OpenPay solution and its secure payment architecture,” said Eamon Keating, general manager of Trintech’s retail division.

The OpenPay 3000 provides Scheidt and Bachmann with a standards-based solution that meets Visa PIN Pad and ZKA device security standards as well as various disability requirements. In addition, Scheidt and Bachmann are installing Trintech’s PayWare Merchant card authorisation software for real-time authorisations.

The PayWare OpenPay 3000 can be used in any unmanned payment environment including ticket vending machines, pay-at-pump terminals, ATMs, mobile prepay vending machines, multimedia kiosks and vending machines.

Dr. Norbert Miller, general manager of Scheidt & Bachmann, said: “Our goals are very ambitious, and we have high expectations in the co-operation with Trintech. We expect the partnership to strengthen and extend our market leadership position as an innovative system house.”
