Over the bank holiday weekend incumbent operator Eircom introduced a €39.99 flat rate package that will enable Irish homes to make national calls during the day, at night and at the weekend and will include line rental in the bundle.
Siliconrepublic.com has learned that the telecoms operator will start taking orders today for its Talktime Anytime flat rate package.
It is understood that the package will become effective from 27 May.
A spokesman for the national operator explained: “We’ve had Talktime packages before. In fact we’ve had one for €39.99 for off-peak calls. However, this time the package covers calls at any time of the day or week.
“This will be good for families and is a nice move because on average 60pc of a customer’s phone bill is line charges and local calls. This package adds a lot of certainty to the phone bill.”
The Eircom spokesman confirmed that the new package does not include international calls and mobile calls. “However, it will include discounts on certain international and mobile calls,” he said.
It is understood that the new Talktime Anytime package will include a 5pc discount on calls to mobiles; international calls to Britain, US and Canada for 10c per minute anytime; a 20pc discount on all other international calls; 10pc off international mobile calls; and a free Eircom mailbox.
Cathal Magee, MD of Eircom Retail commented: “Talktime Anytime offers customers excellent value, and gives customer greater freedom and certainty over their monthly phone bill. This means no more clock watching. It is one simple price that covers all local and national calls to anyone, no matter what time you call.”
