Update: an ‘official’ Office 2010 Twitter account from Microsoft that claimed a new product was on the way has been branded as a fake by the company.
Rumour had it recently that there was a new Microsoft product in the pipeline: a smartphone device that would compete directly with the Apple iPhone and Palm Pre.
What was supposedly the official Office 2010 Twitter account from Microsoft said: “New product launch, that’s all I’m allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre. :)”, which sparked much speculation that a Zune smartphone device capable of competing directly with the Apple iPhone and Palm Pre was on its way to market.
But, alas, it seems we must wait a little longer for just such a device, as Microsoft has made an official statement saying that the Twitter account claiming to be linked to the Microsoft site ‘Office 2010 The Movie’ is not affiliated with the company at all, and that claims of any Zune products soon to be announced are not true.
The real Twitter account associated with the Office 2010 marketing campaign can be found here.
