iOS 4.2 released to developers

2 Nov 2010

iOS 4.2 has “gone gold” and is now available to developers, meaning that standard users could see its release in the next few days or weeks.

The biggest change to the operating system is the new multitasking bar for the iPad, which includes volume and brightness controls.

It also will feature a dedicated AirPlay button, to let users more easily stream music wirelessly.

Users can also now create an Apple ID within the iOS settings app when adding a MobileMe account.

Apple has also added greater restriction settings, which includes restricting location data, material that may be unsuitable for younger users, allowing multiplayer games and other general account settings.
