Sony will cease production of its MiniDisc Walkman in September due to lack of sales of the device, Japanese business daily The Nikkei has reported.
Sony discontinued production of cassette Walkmans last year.
The MiniDisc Walkman first hit the market in Japan in 1992 (the first cassette Walkman came out in 1979). Sony sold 22m MiniDiscs through March this year, but the device never really took off outside Japan.
Sony will continue producing the discs themselves after September and also plans to keep offering CD Walkmans.
