Iona and Hewlett-Packard (HP) have received the top accolade for the Most Effective Alliance at the 2002 Nabarro Nathanson technology industry awards event held in London.

Law firm Nabarro Nathanson staged the awards in association with Infoconomist magazine. A high-profile judging panel, including Duncan Mitchell, vice-president and managing director of Cisco Systems UK and Ireland and Sir Robin Saxby, executive chairman of ARM Holdings, were involved in the selection process.

Fergal McDonnell, director of alliances at Iona Technologies and Simon Carney, director of ISV programme, HP Enterprise Solutions Partners accepted the award, which recognised both companies’ successful alliance strategy in driving business opportunities in the area of web services integration.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, McDonnell said: “Our alliance with HP is one of Iona’s most strategic, as evidenced by our long and successful partnership delivering products and services to our common customers. In 2002, we consolidated that alliance and successfully delivered improved levels of business consultancy and technical expertise for those customers.”

HP’s Simon Carney added: “HP’s relationship with Iona is important because its service-oriented, standards-based solutions deliver confidence in the most challenging of today’s heterogeneous, mission-critical IT environments. The dynamics of the enterprise integration market are shifting and successful industry partnerships will become increasingly important in meeting market requirements.”
