Office equipment manufacturer Xerox has confirmed that 900 staff out of its 1,700-strong Irish workforce are to transfer to IBM Global Services following a 12-month long strategic review of its operations in Ireland.

Under the deal the 900 staff in Xerox’s Ballycoolin contact centre will remain in their offices but will instead become employees of IBM.

“This is the outcome of a review that will see through a partnership with IBM employees of Xerox seamlessly transfer to IBM. All 900 staff will have the same terms and conditions of their employment and will remain at the same facility.”

The spokesperson told siliconrepublic.com that the remaining 350 staff at the facility – mostly sales and marketing, global services and treasury workers – will remain at the facility as employees of Xerox.

Following the transfer, Xerox will employ 800 people in Ireland, including the remaining 350 in Ballycoolin and a further 350 at its manufacturing facility in Dundalk.

“Xerox chose IBM for their experience in providing managed services clients to globally in the shared services arena and their ability to leverage key technologies for the continued support of our business,” the Xerox spokesperson explained.

“IBM also shares Xerox’s same culture and values as well as total commitment to high quality customer contact and support, the continuation of which has always been a top priority.

“A critical factor in our choice of IBM as a partner was to maximize opportunities for our employees. We are pleased to say that as part of contract with IBM, approximately 900 of our employees working at the European Contact centre in Ballycoolin will transfer to IBM.

“We have begun a consultation process with all relevant employees regarding to transfer to IBM and timeframes this might involve,” the Xerox spokesperson said.
