Online iPad 2 buyers given 2-3 week wait on shipment

While the iPad 2 hits Irish stores today, those buying the tablet online will have to wait 2-3 weeks until it ships.

Apple’s Irish website states that the waiting time for shipping the iPad 2 will be two to three weeks. Both the Wi-Fi and 3G models – with data plans being offered by 3, O2 and Vodafone – are experiencing this shipment delay.

This is compared to other Apple products on the store, including the iPhone 4 and the new Macbook Pro, which ship on the same day.

The long shipping time could reflect stock issues, which the iPad 2 has been plagued with in the US. There are still queues outside retailers in America, in spite of the fact the tablet has been out for two weeks. On day one, 500,000 tablets were sold.

If anything, Ireland currently doesn’t have it as bad as iPad 2 fans do in America, where the US online store says the tablet will ship in three to four weeks.

However, just yesterday, the waiting time in the US was four to five weeks, so perhaps supply problems are slowly beginning to be resolved.
