PlayStation Move may get PC functionality

1 Feb 2011

The PlayStation Move could be officially getting PC functionality, allowing enthusiasts to develop software utilising the motion controller.

The Move Server project was revealed in a synopsis written on the website for the Games Developers Conference 2011 in San Francisco.

According to the site, John McCutchan, senior developer support engineer at Sony Computer Entertainment America, will be giving a talk at the conference on “new Move Server project that will make it possible for academics and hobbyists to develop software using the PlayStation Move controller on their own PCs.”

Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller for the Xbox 360 has seen a wide variety of hacks, letting it be used for other purposes than originally intended.

However, if the Move Server is released, this will officially give support to programmers looking to push the Move controller to its limits.
