28 Jun 2011

Sony has unveiled a new VAIO Z Series notebook PC, weighing less than 1.2 kilograms and offering a Power Media Dock, which uses Intel’s Light Peak technology.

The VAIO Z’s body and display lid are made with a light carbon fibre, allowing for the low weight. It’s 16.65mm thick and offers a 1,600 x 900 resolution 13.1-inch screen.

It’s equipped with Intel Core i7 processors and up to 256GB SSD RAID storage.

The VAIO Z includes the Power Media Dock, a monolithic expansion module linking with the laptop using an optical cable. It offers Intel’s Light Peak technology, which features fast I/O data transfer.

The dock includes an optical drive, can boost graphics performance and adds extra connectivity options, such as USB, VGA and HDMI for monitors. It also has AMD Radeon HD graphics with 1GB VRAM for gaming.

The VAIO Z series notebook PC is available from the end of July.
