Australia police charge Facebook hacker

Police in Australia have arrested and charged a 17-year-old boy in connection with the hacking of a girl’s Facebook page, which resulted in 200,000 positive replies to her 16th birthday party invitation.

Police said a Sydney teenager, who is now due in court in April, hijacked the girl’s Facebook page and posted an open invitation to her party.

The girl had created her own birthday party invitation on the social networking site, but took it down when the RSVPs got out of hand.

Police did not identify the family or the party date in the hoax invitation as way of discouraging potential guests. Police vehicles will also be patrolling the area on the date, even though the girl has cancelled the original party.
