Samsung now number one consumer TV brand in Ireland

26 Feb 2010

Samsung Electronics has been confirmed as the number one LCD TV brand in Ireland and overall across all other categories, the company said.

According to January 2010 GFK data findings, Samsung took a share of 31.5 pc of the LCD market, 45.7pc of Plasma market and 90pc of the LED market based on sales value. This gives Samsung an overall 33.1pc share of the total Irish TV market.

“Samsung Ireland’s CTV total share is now a fantastic 33.1pc of the market, which is even more impressive when you consider that this figure stood at just 23.7pc this time last year,” Kevin Maguire, country manager, Consumer Electronics at Samsung Ireland, said.

“Our continued brand and marketing investment in Ireland appears to have hit an emotional note with Irish consumers and despite the challenging market conditions created by global economic uncertainties, sales of Samsung TVs in all categories, LED, LCD and plasma, have continued to show good growth in Ireland,” he added.

In April 2009, Samsung was first to market with its new category line-up of LED TVs 8000, 7000 and 6000 series.

Samsung’s impactful LED marketing campaign focused on three factors: it’s ultra slim (29.9mm); its LED technology makes picture quality sharper and brighter; and the new TVs are eco-friendly, cutting power consumption by about 40pc compared with old LCD TVs.

“We are confident that 2010 will bring further reason to celebrate with the launch of our new revolutionary 3D TV range in April, which incorporates the latest technology that is setting a new benchmark in picture quality around the globe,” Maguire said.
