Smart in €2.5m data-
hosting deal

Smart Telecom has awarded a €2.5m co-location contract to Data Electronics to host the majority of its national voice and data infrastructure.

Smart’s voice and data infrastructure will be hosted at Data Electronics’ data centre in Kilcarbery Park in Dublin.

According to Data Electronics CEO Maurice Mortell, the deal will allow Smart to grow its physical infrastructure and capacity on demand at half the cost of an in-house centre. It is understood Data Electronics won the contract over several competing data centres in the Irish market.

Smart’s chief executive Oisín Fanning commented: “The deal essentially means the Data Electronics Group will now house a large portion of Smart Telecom’s entire voice infrastructure. To facilitate this service, it was very important to us that we appointed a partner company with a proven track record, which we knew we could rely on at all times.

It is understood Data Electronics invested €10m in its facility over the past five years and its network operation centre can monitor and support businesses on a 24/7 basis. It claims to be the only company in the Irish market that can integrate countrywide data centre services with field services cross-country.
