The Apple App Store has clocked up more than 15bn app downloads to date, just three years after its launch.
According to Apple, the 15bn apps were downloaded onto more than 200m iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.
In total, the Apple App store has more than 425,000 apps, including more than 100,000 tablet apps for the iPad.
“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice-president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
“Thank you to all of our amazing developers who have filled it with over 425,000 of the coolest apps and to our over 200m iOS users for surpassing 15bn downloads.”
Just last month, Apple said there were 14bn downloads on the app store, suggesting that there has been 1bn app downloads this month alone.
Overall, Apple has paid more than US$2.5bn to developers to date.
