The iPhone 4S. A mobile app by Irish State training agency FÁS may soon be available

The Irish State training agency FÁS is planning to develop a mobile app to let smartphone users access information about its courses.

An invitation to tender, published yesterday, outlines plans for FÁS to take the information it provides on its courses search website and to provide this on an app for iPhone and Android platforms, with Windows listed as a third possible option for development.

Currently, the Jobseeker website allows visitors to search for courses in the FÁS database by four criteria: keyword, type, location and category. It’s envisaged that the app would display a splash screen and a search form page, and would return a search results page and could also display a page describing each course.

The app will be able to access the information from the authority’s database. FÁS said in its tender that the app would have an XML-based web service made available to it.

The initial contract is to create the app and provide support/maintenance for a year with a possible roll over for a second year.

The deadline for submissions is 9 May, but the agency has not listed a final deadline for completion of the project. A more detailed spec for the work will be issued as part of the RFT to the shortlisted companies.
