Surf’s up for Aran visitors

29 Aug 2007

Travellers to the Aran Islands need no longer worry about being offline; the first internet kiosk on an Irish island has been installed on Inishmore.

The kiosk, located at the Ostan Arann hotel, was installed by Kilkenny-based company Ormonde Technologies.

Previously the hotel had a Wi-Fi connection to cater for guests with laptops but the hotel saw a demand for a kiosk service.

“We had been trying to facilitate guests up to now by allowing them the use of one of our reception PCs”, said hotel proprietor PJ Flaherty, “but this could leave us open to all kinds of risks.”

The company is the leading independent provider of internet kiosks in Ireland, with currently close to 250 of its flagship Surfbox internet kiosks operating in hotels, bars and cafes. It is also in the middle of an ambitious expansion programme in the UK, having recently launched the service in the Golden Tulip chain of hotels.
